THE LEAD:Â
For the second consecutive day, the University of Hartford baseball team struck first against Arizona, before the Wildcats roared back. The Hawks (1-8, 0-0 AE) jumped ahead in the top of the first inning when designated hitter
Erik Ostberg drove in center fielder
Ashton Bardzell and right fielder
Nick Campana worked a bases loaded walk. It was all Arizona from there, though.

The Wildcats scored four in the first, three in the second and one in the fourth, before erupting for a 14-run fifth inning. Hartford left fielder
Chris Sullivan plated the Hawks' only other run, driving in Ostberg with a single up the middle.

Ostberg led Hartford at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Campana also had a pair of hits on the day. Seven Wildcats had multi-hit games, with Alfonso Rivas going 4-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs.

Arizona sophomore Michael Flynn (2-0) picked up the win for Arizona, allowing two runs in five innings. Junior
David Drouin (0-2) took the loss for Hartford.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bardzell led off with a double and scored when Ostberg singled to right. After loading the bases, Campana picked up an RBI when he drew a bases-loaded walk to score Ostberg.
- The Wildcats scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the inning. Junior Jared Oliva's two-run double to left broke the inning open for Arizona.
- Arizona scored three more runs with another four-hit inning in the second.
- A Hartford error helped the Wildcats push their lead to 8-2 in the fourth inning.
- Arizona's offense broke through for 14 runs on 11 hits in the fifth. Nicholas Quintana had a two-run homer, while Oliva and Kyle Lewis each had two hits in the frame.
- The Hawks got one back in the eighth when Ostberg led off with a single and scored on single up the middle by Sullivan.
- Two Hartford errors led to three unearned runs for the Wildcats in the eighth.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- With a 3-for-4 day, Ostberg upped his average above .500 at .514 (19-for-37).
- The 25 runs were the most Hartford has allowed since surrendering 32 to Western Carolina on March 16, 2008.
- Three Hartford pitchers combined to throw 183 pitches in the game. Five Wildcats threw a combined 126 pitches.
- The Hawks committed a season-high five errors in the game.

Hartford will conclude its Southwestern road trip when the Hawks take on Arizona in the series finale on Sunday at 3 p.m. Game 3 will feature Hartford sophomore
John Mormile (0-0, 7.00 ERA) against junior left-hander Rio Gomez (2-1, 1.56 ERA).

Mormile has made a pair of starts this season, allowing 11 hits and striking out 10 through nine innings. Sunday's start will be Gomez's fourth of the season. He won his first two decisions before taking a hard-luck loss in his last outing against Nebraska. He went seven innings against the Cornhuskers, allowing one unearned run, and striking out five.
