THE LEAD:Â
Pitching dominated the day as Binghamton took both ends of Saturday's doubleheader against the University of Hartford baseball team (20-27, 8-12 America East) at the Bearcats Sports Complex. The Hawks managed one run in a 4-1 setback in game one, and suffered a 1-0 shutout defeat against BU in game two.
Â
BU junior Jacob Wloczewski turned in his strongest performance of the season in the second contest of the afternoon, taking a perfect game into the seventh inning before Hartford right fielder
Nick Campana broke it up with a single to center field. Trailing 1-0 and with Campana, representing the tying run, on first base, Hartford grounded into a double play to end the game.
Â
The Hawks managed seven hits on the day, with Campana leading the way with two. Hartford got solid pitching from game one starter
Brian Stepniak (3 runs, 4 hits) and game two starter
Nathan Florence (1 run, 3 hits), but it was the Hawks' bullpen that stood out the most.
Â
Hartford's relievers, led by freshman
Alex Moconyi (4 ip, 1 run, 3 hits) combined for 6.1 innings of four-hit, one-run ball.
Jake Regula (1.2 ip) and
Drew Farkas (0.2 ip) were also strong out of the pen.
With the sweep, Binghamton wrapped up the No. 1 seed in next week's America East Conference Championship tournament. Hartford's seeding will be determined at the conclusion of the weekend's conference series.

- The Bearcats added an insurance run in the eighth inning when center fielder CJ Krowiak singled and eventually scored on a lineout by third baseman Justin Yurchak.
Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Yurchak double in the first, scoring Krowiak to give BU a 1-0 edge.
