Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Jaspers had a few looks at breaking open the game in the first half, as Dylan Burns sent a shot from on top of the 18-yard box just wide of the target in the fourth minute. Manhattan also had another chance in the 35th minute, but Erica Modena's shot on a 1v1 went just high.
- Sophomore forward Skylar Vitiello produced a great opportunity for the Hawks in the 25th minute, but Manhattan keeper Kelly DiGregorio turned away her shot from eight yards.
- After facing a 5-3 disadvantage in shots in the first half, the Hawks came out firing in the second half. Just 90 seconds out of the break, Alexander put the finishing touches on a ball from Kaila Lozada to make it a 1-0 Hartford lead.
- Hawks' keeper Maia Perez made an outstanding save in the 51st minute on a breakaway shot from Modena, but in the 72nd minute, Manhattan found the equalizer when Arianna Montefusco headed in a cross from Emma Saul.Â
- Hartford's attack continued to apply pressure, as freshman defender Nissa Pereira had two looks at the potential go-ahead goal in the 76th and 87th minute. The first blast from well beyond the box was punched away by a diving DiGregorio while the second attempt, which also came from deep, went just wide of the mark.
- The Hawks continued to have the better of play for the remainder of the match. Sophomore forward Ashley Claud forced DiGregorio to make an impressive save with 73 seconds remaining in regulation. Hartford held a combined 3-2 shot advantage in extra time, but was unable to muster up the golden goal. Â Â
