THE LEAD:

The University of Hartford blanked visiting Siena on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Saints by a 2-0 final on Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. Sophomore
Bridgette Alexander netted the game-winning tally in the 42nd minute before freshman
Magalie Kayrouz tacked on an insurance tally in the 49th minute.
Freshman
Maia Perez picked up her second career shutout victory between the posts for Hartford, which has won its last two in West Hartford. She anchored a solid outing from the Hawks' defense, making a career-high 10 saves.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both sides threatened early in the match, with Siena keeper Taylor Dorado being forced into action twice and Perez coming away with three saves to keep the match scoreless through 33 minutes of action. Included in Perez' stops was a punching save on a shot by Michelle Tremblay in the 26th minute.
- Sophomore Skylar Vitiello deflected a clear attempt from Siena's Haleigh Schanz toward freshman Beatriz Correia, who found Alexander with a ball into the middle of the 18-yard box. Dodging a defender, Alexander beat Dorado with a shot to the far post to give the Hawks the lead in the 42nd minute.
- Hartford carried the momentum into the second half, finding the back of the net four minutes out of the break to extend the lead to 2-0. Sophomore Sierra Stone sent a pass down the middle of the field to Kayrouz, who finished from 10 yards out with a low shot to the right post.
- Six of Perez' match-best 10 saves came after the Hawks' insurance tally, including a clutch save in the 69th minute on a point-blank shot from Siena's Jayanna Monds.
