THE LEAD:
The University of Hartford men's soccer dropped a 3-0 decision against the UMass Minutemen in Amherst, Mass. on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UMass struck early. In the fourth minute Jack Fulton sent a strike from eight yards out, off a header from Henry Steinkamp, to put the Minutemen up 1-0.
- Michael Dunn had the Hawks best opportunity of the half in the 41st minute. Off a cross from Alexis Triadis, Dunn headed a shot that missed just wide right of the net.
- UMass extended their lead in the early minutes of the second half. Davis Smith sent a strike from seven yards out, off a pass from Matthew Monney, to net the Minutemen's second goal of the game
- Off an Alexis Triadis corner, Xhane Reid sent a bullet that sailed wide left of the net in the 63rd minute. Moments later, Nyrik Antoine followed with another quality look at the net, but his header would miss just left of the post.
- Â UMass solidified to their lead in the 84th minute, when Konrad Gorich capitalized on a free kick right outside the box that just made it past the diving Sean Teske.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS & NOTES:
- The Minutemen had the advantage in shot, 9-5.
- Both squads were even in corner kicks, with three apiece.
- Goalkeeper Sean Teske saw the first minutes of Hawk career, recording his first career save. Â Â
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will wrap up their road swing with a matchup against in-state rival Central Connecticut on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Following the 7 p.m. start, Hartford returns home next Saturday, Sept. 30, when it opens conference play against Vermont in a 7 p.m. tilt.
