Women's Soccer Defeats UAlbany, 2-1

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. —Sophomore Gabriela Gamory scored once and dished out an assist to lead the Hartford women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory against visiting UAlbany on a rain-soaked Al-Marzook Field on Thursday. Improving their unbeaten streak to 11 matches, the Hawks (11-1-2) remain undefeated in America East play with a 4-0-1 record, while the Great Danes (8-6-2) drop to 2-6-1 in league games.

HARTFORD 2, UALBANY 1
  • Senior Julia Carr played a long ball from the far to set up Gamory for her seventh goal of the season. After corralling the pass, Gamory ripped a shot over UAlbany keeper Andrea Leitner to put Hartford ahead in the 22nd minute.
  • The Hawks built on their lead not long after the halftime break when senior Ashley Claud found the back of the net in the 56th minute. She put the finishing touches on a long through ball sent down the middle of the field by Gamory for her sixth goal of the year.
  • UAlbany applied pressure down the stretch, holding a 5-0 edge in shots while producing six corner kicks over the final 35 minutes. But Hartford keeper Maia Perez made two of her game-best five saves during that span to hold off the Great Danes.
  • The Hawks held the Great Danes off of the scoreboard until the match's final seconds, when Mariah Williams capitalized on a hand ball in the box and converted on the penalty kick with 12 seconds left.
  • Hartford was outshot for just the second time this season, as UAlbany held an 11-4 advantage, including a 7-1 edge in the second half.

HARTFORD NOTES
  • Gamory's first-half goal improved her team-leading total to seven.
  • Hartford's current 11-game unbeaten streak (9-0-2) marks its longest since 2011, when the Hawks went 9-0-2 to open the season.
