Hawks Fall to Great Danes in America East Action

ALBANY, N.Y. –Hartford fought late into sets two and three against UAlbany, but fell to the Great Danes 3-0 Friday night in America East action.
 
Junior Jenna Bridges and sophomore Abby Nash each finished with 12 kills for Hartford, who fall to 10-12 overall and 3-7 in conference play. Chloe Evering hit .286 with 13 kills for UAlbany, who improve to 14-8 on the season and 8-1 in the America East.
 
UALBANY 3, HARTFORD 0 (25-17, 29-27, 26-24)
  • SET ONE:With the two teams tied at 10, the Great Danes began to open up a lead on the Hawks. UAlbany pushed the advantage to five at 21-16 before a block by sophomores Brittany Braun and Megan Anderson brought Hartford back within four (21-17). The Great Danes however closed out the first, scoring the final four points for the 25-17 opening set win. 
  • SET TWO:UAlbany looked to have the second set wrapped up holding advantage at 24-18. The Hawks, however, fought off set point six times to tie the match at 24. Hartford continued to battle, taking the lead 26-25 and 27-26 but could not close out the Great Danes, as the home team held off the Hawks and won the second set 29-27 and took the 2-0 lead.
  • SET THREE:Tied at 10, Hartford went on a 5-3 run to take the 15-13 lead in the third. The Hawks continued to hold the advantage all the way to set point at 24-23 before UAlbany rallied. The Great Danes scored the final three points of the set for the 26-24 victory and the 3-0 win. 
  • NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS:Bridges finished with double-digit kills for the 19th straight match … Anderson registered a team-high 35 assists… Freshman Alex Lucero tied for a match-high 13 digs … Akuabata Okenwa tallied a double-double for UAlbany with 10 kills and 10 digs.
