HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
- Wright State jumped out to an early four-run lead off a pair of 2-run RBI doubles in the opening three innings.
- The Hawks jumped on the board in the fourth inning, loading the bases off back-to-back singles by Ward and junior Ashton Bardzell, and a walk to junior Chris Sullivan with no outs. Nick Campana grounded into a double play but drove in Ward, cutting the Raiders lead to 4-1.
- After Wright State tacked on two more in the fifth inning, Sullivan laced an RBI single to left field to drive in Ward, taking a piece out of the Raiders, 6-2 lead.
- Wright State extended their lead in the seventh and eight, taking the 11-2 decision.
Game 2
- Dayton jumped out early as Brandom Smith sent a solo shot to center field. An RBI triple and RBI single in the third inning extended the Flyers lead to 3-0.
- Similar to game one, the Hawks loaded the bases off back-to-back singles by Campana and Ward, and a walk to Bardzell with no outs. Sullivan grounded into a double play but drove in Campana, cutting the Raiders lead to 3-1.
- Sophomore Zachary Ardito led off the fifth inning by ripping a triple to right field before junior Drew Holtgrieve drove him home with an RBI double as the Hawks continued to chip away at the Flyer lead, 3-2.
- After Dayton scored one in the fifth and seventh, the Hawks responded in the eighth. Campana led the inning off with a single to center before Ward was hit by a pitch. Campana scored as Bardzell reached on an error quickly followed by Ward scoring when Sullivan grounded into a double play.
- The Flyers answered with two runs of their of own in the bottom half of the frame, taking the 7-4 decision.
