THE LEAD:
Off a three-run fifth inning, UMBC topped the University of Hartford baseball team, 9-5, to take game three of their three-game set.
Junior
Ashton Bardzell led the way for the Hawks, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks struck early, as a SAC fly from senior TJ Ward drove in senior Nick Campana in the first.
- The Retrievers responded in the second inning, putting two runs up off two hits.
- Hartford quickly took the lead back in the third. After Campana drew a one-out walk, junior Chris Sullivan laced an RBI single to center to drive Campana in. Bardzell followed up with a two-run shot to center, giving the Hawks a 4-2 lead.
- UMBC posted three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in both the seventh and eighth to take the 9-5 decision.
