HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
- The Hawks and Black Bears were engaged in a pitcher's duel, as Dombkowksi and Maine's Nick Silva (7.2 innings, 5 hits and 1 earned run) only giving up eight hits combined through seven innings.
- One swing of the bat from Walker put the game in the Hawks favor, ripping his second home run of the season to right, putting the Hawks up 1-0 before junior Seth Pinkerton locked down the Black Bears in the ninth, sealing the game for the Hawks.
Game 2
- The Hawks jumped out to an early lead in the second game, as Walker, junior Ashton Bardzell, and Junior Chris Sullivan all earned one-out walks in the first inning to load the bases. Senior TJ Ward capitalized on the opportunity, as a grounder to the shortstop was bobbled, scoring Walker giving the Hawks an early, 1-0 lead.
- Maine responded in the second, after a leadoff triple they by Brandon Vicens, Kevin Doody drove him in with a dribbler to the pitcher to knot the game up a one.
- The Black Bears added two more in the third off an RBI single and two-run double, before adding one in the sixth and two in the seventh, taking a 6-1 lead.
- The Hawks wouldn't go away quietly, though, as redshirt-junior Cam Belliveau and freshman John Thrasher both recorded one-out singles, but the Black Bears kept the threat at bay to take the 6-1 decision.
