THE LEAD:
A pair of RBI doubles from sophomore
Jackson Olson pushed the University of Hartford baseball team past Binghamton, 5-4 in West Hartford on Friday afternoon.
After Binghamton opened up an early, 4-0, lead after two innings, the Hawks scored five unanswered runs over the next seven innings set up junior
Seth Pinkerton to record his sixth save of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bearcats jumped out early, scoring one in the top of the first off a Luke Tevlin RBI single to right field before scoring three runs off three hits in the second inning to take an early, 4-0 lead.
- Hartford quickly responded in the bottom half of the second. Junior TJ ward drove junior Chis Sullivan – who worked a leadoff walk – by ripping an RBI double to center. Sophomore Zachary Ardito legged out an RBI triple to right center to bring Ward in before being driven on when sophomore Robert Carmody grounded out to the shortstop to cut the Bearcats lead to 4-3.
- The Hawks drew even with Binghamton in the sixth, as Olson laced an RBI double to left center, driving in Ward who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.
- Olson ripped another RBI double in the eighth inning to give the Hawks a 5-4 lead before Pinkerton shutdown the Bearcats in the ninth, sealing the 5-4 decision for the Hawks.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sophomore Drew Farkas earned his fourth win of the season, which leads the Hawks while Pinkerton recorded his sixth save of the season.
- The Hawks snapped a nine-game skid against the Bearcats with the victory.
