THE LEAD:
The University of Hartford baseball team dropped game one of its weekend set at Elon, 7-2, on Friday night in North Carolina.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Three of the first four Phoenix worked a walked in the opening frame, which set up the middle of the line up for a pair of RBI singles that put Elon up early, 3-0.
- Elon tacked on a run in both the third and the fourth, scoring on an RBI single in the third and throwing error in the fourth, to extend their lead to 5-0.
- The Phoenix loaded the bases in the seventh inning before a pair of walks drove in two runs, pulling away to 7-0.
- The Hawks remained resilient, senior Nick Campana led off the ninth by ripping a double down the left field line, extending his hit streak to eleven games. Campana advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring when junior Ashton Bardzell grounded out to the shortstop. The Hawks comeback bid fell short as Elon took the 7-1 decision.
