THE LEAD:
A three-run tenth inning from Quinnipiac hands the University of Hartford baseball team a heartbreaking, 6-5, loss on Tuesday afternoon in Hamden.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bobcats jumped on the board first, scoring the first run of the game off an RBI single up the middle in the second inning.
- The Hawks bats were quiet until the sixth inning when redshirt-junior Cam Belliveau opened the frame singling to right to set senior Nick Campana for a two-run homer. Junior Ashton Bardzell worked a one-out walk and later driven in by junior Chris Sullivan single through the right side to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead.
- Quinnipiac got one run back in the bottom half of the sixth, off a solo homer from Liam Scafariello before knotting the game up in the eighth, sending the game to extra.
- Sophomore Bryce Walker opened up the tenth by working a walk before Bardzell laced a go-ahead two-run homer to left center, giving the Hawks a 5-3 lead.
- The Bobcats racked up four singles in the tenth inning, including a walk-off RBI single to right center Julius Saporito to give them the 6-5 decision.
INSIDE THE NUMBER
- Senior Nick Campana extended his hitting streak to 14 games with his homer in the sixth inning.
