Pinkerton Becomes All-Time Saves Leader as Hawks Sweep UMass Lowell

THE LEAD:

The University of Hartford baseball team completes a pair of comeback victories to sweep UMass Lowell in Wst Hartford on Saturday Afternoon. 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1-

  • The River Hawks came out of the gates strong, scoring three runs in the top of the first off three hits and a Hartford error.
  • Senior Nick Campana and sophomore Bryce Walker led off the bottom half of the first by working a pair of walks before junior Ashton Bardzell singled to left field to load the bases. Senior TJ Ward drove Campana in with an RBI Single to right, Walker scored on an error by the third and junior Zachary Adrito platted Bardzell on a sacrifice fly to center to knot the game up at three.
  • UMass Lowell retook the lead in the second and extended their lead in the next the innings, scoring on in the second, two in the third and four in the fourth to take a 9-3 lead.
  • The Hawks came roaring back in the bottom of the fourth, as Ardito scored on a Freshman Drew DeMartino groundout, Campana laced a two-run homer, Ward ripped a two-run double and Olson send an RBI double up the middle to tie the game at nine.
  • The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth when Ward worked a walk to brought in Walker to take the lead before Ardito sent bases clearing double to left center, giving the Hawks a 13-9 decision. 
Game 2
  • UMass Lowell and Hartford exchanged first inning solo home runs as Mark Tumosa sent a one-out shot to center field which Campana countered in the bottom half of the inning with a shot of his own to left.
  • The River Hawks put themselves back on top in the second, scoring on an RBI single and sacrifice fly to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Junior Chris Sullivan cut into the River Hawks lead, ripping an RBI single up the middle to drive Campana in.
  • Ardito led off the sixth inning reaching on an error before DeMartino reached on an infield single to put runners of the corner for Campana who blasted a three-run shot to left center, putting the Hawks up 5-3.
  • Bardzell quickly followed up in the next at-bat with a solo shot of his own, extending the Hawks lead to 6-3.
  • Junior Seth Pinkerton shutdown the side in the seventh, giving the Hawks the 6-3 decision. 

INSIDE THE NUMBER

  • Campana extended his hitting streak to 16 games,  going 4-for-7 on the day.
  • With the save today, Pinkerton becomes the All-Time saves leader in program history and ties the season record with nine.
