THE LEAD:
Behind a walk-off single in the ninth, The University of Hartford baseball team fell to Stony Brook, 3-2, in the rubber match of their three-game set in New York on Sunday afternoon.
After trailing for the majority of the game, the Hawks rallied in the ninth as junior
Chris Sullivan worked a leadoff walk, later scoring on a wild pitch. Stony Brook responded in the bottom of the ninth, taking the 3-2 decision off a walk-off RBI single to left.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stony Brook got on the board early, scoring one in the first off an RBI single up the middle in the first, taking a 1-0 lead.
- The Hawks broke through in the fourth inning as junior Ashton Bardzell led off the frame doubling down the left field line. Sophomore Jackson Olson drove Bardzell in later in the inning, singling up the middle to knot the game up at one.
- A Stony Brook RBI sacrifice bunt in the seventh inning put the Seawolves up 2-1.
- Sullivan worked a leadoff walk in the ninth inning and scored on a pair of wild pitches, to draw the game even two.
- Stony Brook quickly responded in the bottom of the ninth, capitalizing on a leadoff double with a walk-off single u the middle to give the Seawolves the 3-2 decision.
