THE LEAD:
Behind a three-run first inning, the University of Hartford baseball team topped Central Connecticut in a rain-shortened game at Dunkin' Donuts Park on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With two outs in the first inning, junior Ashton Bardzell sparked the Hawks offense with a single to right center. Fellow junior Chris Sullivan walked to set up senior TJ Ward, who ripped a two-run down the left field line. Sophomore Jackson Olson drove Ward in the with a single through the left side, putting the Hawks up 3-0 after one.
- Central loaded the bases in the in the second inning with no outs, but redshirt-junior stuck out the side to neutralize the Blue Devil threat.
- After three quiet innings, the game was called due to rain, giving the Hawks the 3-0 decision.
