WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Hartford women's soccer team came up short in its home opener, as it dropped a 2-0 decision to Providence for its first setback of 2018 on Thursday. Amber Birchwell netted the go-ahead tally in the 25th minute for the Friars, who improve to 3-0. Hartford drops to 2-1 on the season.

- Birchwell's go-ahead goal ended a season-opening shutout streak of 104:30 for the Hawks, as they entered the match riding a two-game shutout rally.
- Kayla Steeves doubled the Friars' advantage in the 58th minute after putting the finishing touches on a blocked shot from Birchwell.
- Providence finished with a slight 11-9 edge in shots and held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Maia Perez registered three saves for the Hawks, while Shelby Hogan made four stops between the posts for the Friars.
