WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –Hartford volleyball came up short to Bryant on Tuesday, as the Hawks dropped a 3-1 decision in their non-conference finale inside the Hartford Volleyball Gym. Sophomore
Daisy Eklund tied a season-high in kills with 10 for the Hawks, who dip to 7-6 overall. Led by a 20-kill effort from Caroline Kennedy, Bryant improves to 12-7.
BRYANT 3, HARTFORD 1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-18)
- SET ONE: Momentum shifted back-and-forth between the Hawks and Bulldogs in the opening set. But the sixth tie of the set — a 21-21 deadlock — proved to be the last, as Hartford delivered a 4-1 run to put the Bulldogs away. Junior Jenna Bridges had five kills and five blocks to pace the Hawks.
- SET TWO:The Hawks jumped out to a 14-8 lead, but a wild momentum swing featuring an 11-2 Bryant run put the Bulldogs in front by a 19-16 count. Facing a 21-17 deficit, Hartford clawed back to pull even at 22-all and again at 23-all, but Bryant recorded the final two points of the set to take the win.
- SET THREE: The Hawks ran out to a 10-5 lead and went up by as many as six (13-7) before Bryant mounted a comeback. Closing the gap down to two, the Bulldogs knotted up the score at 20-20 before they scored five of the final six points of the set to take the 25-21 lead.
- SET FOUR:An 8-2 Bulldogs' run erased a 5-3 Hartford advantage and put the visiting team ahead, 11-7. Bryant continued to control the pace, rolling to the 25-18 victory.
- NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Bridges finished with a team-high 13 kills for her 10th-straight game in double figures, while Modestow also delivered a double-digit kill total with 11 … sophomore Meghan Sherer added a season-best 12 digs … Bridges and sophomore Brittany Braun compiled five blocks apiece.
