Volleyball Takes Down UMBC To Extend Winning Streak to Six

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Senior Jenna Bridges and freshman Maddie Lindsay combined for 39 kills as the Hartford volleyball team took down UMBC, 3-1, on Friday evening to win their sixth consecutive match. The Hawks (11-7) improve to 3-0 in America East action while the Retrievers (3-13) fall to 0-3 in league play.
 
HARTFORD 3, UMBC 1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-19)
  • SET ONE: A neck and neck first set saw the Hawks and Retrievers tied at 23-23. UMBC would win the final two points as they held on to take the first set.
  • SET TWO: The second set was just as close as the first as the two teams were tied at 20-20 late in the set. Hartford would reach set point after a Jenna Bridges kill a pair of UMBC attack errors. The Hawks would win the second set with a kill from Bridges after UMBC pulled within two. 
  • SET THREE: Hartford dominated the first set by jumping out to an early 14-7 lead. The advantage would grow to nine points after Hartford took a 19-10 lead. After kills from Maddie Lindsay from Bridges, Hartford would take the third set, 25-12, and take the 2-1 lead in the match.
  • SET FOUR: Hartford would jump out to a 15-11 lead in the fourth set after a pair of kills from Lindsay. The Hawks would then go on a five-point run, fueled by kills from Abby Nash. UMBC would cut the deficit to four when they score reached 23-19, but a Robin Helms kill and a UMBC attack error would seal the victory for Hartford.
  • HARTFORD NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Hartford's 3-0 start to conference play is the best its first since 1993, when the Hawks started 2-0 as members of the NAC … Bridges had a game-high 20 kills while Megan Anderson racked up 57 assists.
