WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Hartford volleyball team suffered its first defeat in America East play on Sunday, as visiting UAlbany scored a 3-0 victory inside the Hartford Volleyball Gym. Junior
Abby Nash delivered a match-high 13 kills for the Hawks, who had a season-best six-game winning streak get snapped in the setback.
Hartford (11-8) dips to 3-1 in the America East, while UAlbany (9-8) remains undefeated in conference play at 4-0.
UALBANY 3, HARTFORD 1 (25-16, 25-17, 25-23)
- SET ONE: Hitting .429 with just two combined errors, the Great Danes scored the first four points and never looked back in the opening set. Noa Brach registered a pair of blocks for UAlbany, which led by as many as 10 points down the final stretch.
- SET TWO: The Great Danes reaped the benefits of another early advantage.Taking a quick 4-1 lead, they continued built their cushion to 13-7. Hartford would come within four of UAlbany after cutting an 18-11 deficit down to 18-14 with three straight points, but the Great Danes finished strong to take the 2-0 lead.
- SET THREE: Nash delivered seven of her game-best 13 kills in the final set as Hartford came one point shy of pulling off the comeback. Trailing by as many as six (12-6), the Hawks delivered a 5-0 run, but the Great Danes held off the charge by scoring six of the next seven points. Hartford came back from another late deficit, closing the gap to 24-23 after trailing, 23-19, but Akuabata Okenwa sealed the win for UAlbany with a kill.
- HARTFORD NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Hartford's six-match winning streak was its longest since last season, when the Hawks also won six straight … junior Megan Anderson added a game-high 31 assists … Chloe Evering paced UAlbany with a double-double on 15 digs and 10 kills.
