Bridges Records 1,000th Career Kill as Hawks Fall in Five to SHU

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. —Senior Jenna Bridges delivered five blocks and 20 kills — including the 1,000th of her career — but it wasn't enough for the Hartford volleyball team as it fell in five sets to visiting Sacred Heart on Sunday. The Hawks fall to 11-10 with the defeat, while the Pioneers improve to 10-10 on the season.

SACRED HEART 3, HARTFORD 2 (22-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-19, 15-10)
  • SET ONE: Sacred Heart led throughout the opening part of the set, but two straight aces by Alex Lucero brought the Hawks back and tied up the match, 11-11. The two teams would see three more ties, until four-straight points fueled by block assists from Megan Anderson and Jenna Bridges gave Hartford its largest lead at 21-17. Bridges finished with five kills as the Hawks closed out the set on top, 25-22.
  • SET TWO: Sacred Heart hit .382 in the second set en route to taking the 25-15 victory. The Pioneers, who built an early 11-5 edge, led by as many as 11 (22-11) in the set.
  • SET THREE: An early 7-2 run put the Pioneers in front, 9-4. But that lead was short-lived, as Hartford clawed back to take a 12-11 advantage on a 5-1 spurt. The set would see four more ties, but with the score deadlocked at 23-23, the Hawks took care of business and secured the victory on a Sacred Heart blocking error followed by a clutch block by Lacey Zadra.
  • SET FOUR: Sacred Heart used six unanswered points to open a 9-8 edge to 14-8. Down the stretch, the Hawks would pull within three (20-17) on four-straight points fueled by kills from Bridges and Valerie Diede, but wouldn't come any closer down the final stretch.
  • SET FIVE: Liisel Nelis registered five kills for Sacred Heart, which led from start-to-finish in the decisive set.
  • HARTFORD NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Bridges pushed her career kill total to 1,017 after recording 20+ kills for the second time this season … Nash, Diede and Lindsay added nine kills apiece … Anderson compiled five blocks and 48 assists … Sarah Ciszek led Sacred Heart with a match-best 56 assists.
