STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Senior Jenna Bridges delivered a game-high 20 kills and junior Megan Anderson tallied a team-high 44 assists, but it wasn't enough for the Hartford volleyball team as it fell in four sets to America East-foe Stony Brook on the road on Friday evening. The Hawks fall to 11-11 on the season and 3-3 in conference play with the defeat, while the Seawolves improve to 8-13 overall and 3-3 in the America East.
STONY BROOK 3, HARTFORD 1 (25-21, 21-25, 17-25, 22-25)
SET ONE: With the two sides tied at 11-11 in the set, the Hawks went on an 11-5 run to take a 22-16 lead. Stony Brook was able to cut the Hawks lead to 24-20, but a kill from Valerie Diede secured the set win for Hartford.
SET TWO: Stony Brook built an early 4-1 advantage in the set that it would never relinquish. Despite trailing 20-16, the Hawks used a 4-1 run to cut the deficit to 21-20, backed by two kills from Jenna Bridges and a kill from Megan Anderson. The Seawolves withstood the run and closed the set by taking four of the next five points.
SET THREE: The Seawolves hit .424 in the third set en route to a 25-17 set win over the Hawks. The two sides played it close early as there were three lead changes in the set, however, once Hartford fell behind 21-13 it was never able to recover.
SET FOUR: With the set tied at 17-17, the Seawolves went on a 5-0 run to pull ahead 22-17. Trailing 23-20, freshman Maddie Lindsay scored a kill before Nicole Etta delivered a service ace to cut the deficit to one. However, back-to-back attack errors from the Hawks sealed the 3-1 defeat.
HARTFORD NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Bridges pushed her career kill total to 1,037 after recording 20+ kills for the third time this season … Abby Nash added 15 kills and two blocks … Anderson compiled 44 assists … Leanne Sakowicz led Stony Brook with a match-best 50 assists.
