HANOVER, N.H. —The Hartford men's soccer team got back to winning ways as they took down Dartmouth, 1-0, in its final non-conference contest of the year.
Aitor Elena scored the game winner for the Hawks in the 49th minute, while
Jimmy Slayton picked up his eighth shutout of the year, which is a new career best for the senior. The Hawks improve to 8-3-4 on the year while the Big Green drop to 5-6-1.
HARTFORD 1, DARTMOUTH 0
The Hawks started the first half strong with a flurry of chances inside the opening quarter of an hour, but could not find the opening goal. The game would then turn into a battle of the midfield with neither team mustering any real chance on goal. Dartmouth would have chances to end the first half, but would be denied by a great double save from Hartford goalkeeper
Jimmy Slayton as the opening 45 minutes ended scoreless.
Hartford would waste little time after the halftime break to open the scoring as
Aitor Elena got on the end of a
Connor Aksoz cross to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Jordan Koduah would almost double the lead a few minutes later, but his fancy flick towards goal was well saved. Both teams would continue to fire off chances in the middle portion of the half, with Slayton producing more excellent saves.
Mevlan Lebiti would look to extend the Hawks lead late in the second half, with the best chance coming off of great build-up play, but would see his shot ultimately go wide. Dartmouth had the last chance of the game, but Slayton brilliantly tipped a Big Green header over the bar to finish the game with six saves as the Hawks held on for a 1-0 win.
