WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Senior
Jenna Bridges delivered a game-high 18 kills on Thursday evening, as the Hartford volleyball team downed Merrimack in straight sets in the Hawks' non-conference finale. With the win, the Hawks improved to 12-11 on the season, while the Warriors fell to 1-18 on the season with the loss.
HARTFORD 3, MERRIMACK 0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-11)
SET ONE: Leading 12-10, the Hawks went on a 7-4 run to extend its lead to 19-14 prior to a Merrimack timeout. The Warriors battled back to cut the lead to 21-18, forcing a Hartford timeout. Out of the timeout, the Hawks closed the set with a 4-1 run to take the set 25-19.
Maddie Lindsay and Bridges led the way for the Hawks with five kills apiece.
SET TWO: With the set tied at 2-2, the Hawks went on a 5-0 run to take a 7-2 lead. Hartford never let up, pushing its lead to as high as 23-10, before taking the set 25-14. Bridges led the way for the hawks in the set with four kills, while Meghan Anderson added seven assists.
SET THREE: Leading 11-7, Hartford went on a 5-1 run, capped by back-to-back kills from Bridges to push the lead to 16-8. The Hawks never let up, closing the match with a 14-3 run to win the set 25-11. Bridges led the way with nine kills and two blocks in the set.
HARTFORD NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Bridges recorded two solo blocks in the win and is one block shy of tying Teri Connolly's program-record of 65… Lindsay with eight kills in the match… Anderson compiled a game-high 30 assists … Natasha Vallis led Merrimack with 10 kills, while Taelyr Czech led Merrimack with 12 assists.
