Stone Scores Twice to Lead Women's Soccer Past Vermont

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Reigning America East Player of the Week Sierra Stone scored twice in the first half to lead Hartford women's soccer past Vermont, 2-1, on a rainy Al-Marzook Field on Thursday. The Hawks (5-5-1) improve to 2-1 in the America East, while the Catamounts (2-6-2) dip to 0-2-1 in league action.

HARTFORD 2, VERMONT 1
Senior Kaila Lozada slotted a pass through the Vermont defense to Stone, who beat keeper Kacey Lambertson to the right to put Hartford in front in the 13th minute. Six minutes later, Stone struck again, this time using a feed from Skylar Vitiello to double the advantage to 2-0.

The Catamounts managed to get one back less than five minutes later when Brooke Jenkins scored after putting the finishing touches on an Angie Salvi shot that bounced off the crossbar. Hartford, which held a 6-3 edge in shots in the second half, created quality chances during that stretch — including a shot from redshirt-senior Molly Socha that forced Lambertson to make an outstretched save in the 65th minute — but was unable to add on to its lead.
