Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Five at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. — Junior Abby Nash and freshman Maddie Lindsay combined for 31 kills as the Hartford volleyball team downed Binghamton, 3-1, on Friday evening. The Hawks (10-7) improve to 2-0 in America East action with their season-best fifth victory, while the Bearcats (0-14) fall to 0-1 in league play.

HARTFORD 3, BINGHAMTON 1 (25-22, 26-24, 17-25, 25-18)
  • SET ONE: A close opening set saw the Hawks and Bearcats tangled up in a 20-20 draw. With Hartford holding on to a slim, 22-20 lead, Binghamton pulled within one point before the Hawks delivered the final two points to take the victory.
  • SET TWO: Hartford nearly overcame a 12-5 deficit with a furious 6-0 rally, but Binghamton quickly pushed back ahead by six at 19-13. The Hawks came back again, though, as they fired off an 8-2 run to tie up the game at 21-21. After three more ties, a Robin Helms kill followed by blocks by Lindsay and Bridges clinched the set, 26-24.
  • SET THREE: The Bearcats took an early 6-2 lead in the third set and never looked back. Down the stretch, Hartford would come as close at 16-13, but Binghamton finished strong and sealed the win with a 9-2 rally.
  • SET FOUR: Three straight kills by Bridges fueled a 4-0 run that put Hartford in front, 6-3. The Hawks continued to push, building a six-point advantage at 11-5. Binghamton would slash the deficit in half at 14-11, but wouldn't come any closer down the stretch as Hartford cruised to the match-clinching victory.
  • HARTFORD NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Hartford's 2-0 start to conference play is its first since 1993, when the Hawks were members of the NAC … Nash compiled a game-best 16 kills, while Lindsay added 15.
