Men's Basketball Falls to Merrimack, 62-58

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Freshman Miroslav Stafl dropped a game-high 15 points and sophomore Hunter Marks hauled in 11 rebounds as the Hartford men's basketball team fell to Merrimack, 62-58, on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks dropped to 4-3 on the young season while the Warriors improved to 5-3 with the victory.

The first half started out with both teams trading points, with neither team able to establish a lead in the game. The Hawks would go out on an 8-0 run to take a 29-22 lead with 1:40 left in the half, fueled by six points from sophomore Hunter Marks after draining an and-one three pointer. Miroslav Stafl would dominate in the first half, leading the Hawks with 13 points while grabbing five rebounds. Hartford would go into the first half leading Merrimack, 31-24.
 
The Warriors would open the second half on a 10-3 run as they tied the game up at 34-34 with 15:22 remaining in the second half. Merrimack would then jump out to the lead, leading by as much as six. Down 58-52, Hartford would go on a 6-0 run to tie the game up at 58 a piece after PJ Henry came up with a huge steal and an easy layup at the other end. Merrimack would come away with the win however after Devin Jensen made a three-point shot with 17 seconds remaining, as the Warriors won, 62-58.

  • Miroslav Stafl finished as the team leader in points for the second game in a row after dropping 15
  • Moses Flowers also recorded double digits in scoring for the hawks, tallying 12 on the day
  • Marks lead the way in rebounding, finishing with 11 to go along with eight points
  • Traci Carter finished with a game high five assists
  • Hartford outrebounded Merrimack, 36-26
  • Jaleel Lord finished with a game-high 18 points for the Warriors

The Hawks hit the road as they travel to the lone star state for a pair or matchups next week. The Hawks first battle SMU in Dallas on Wednesday, Nov.27 followed by a trip to San Marcos for a Nov. 30, tilt against Texas State.
