Traci Carter dropped a season-best 16 points as the Hartford men's basketball team fell to SMU, 90-58, in the inaugural meeting between the two programs. The Hawks dropped to 4-4 overall on the year while the Mustangs improved to 6-0 with the victory.
SMU 90, HARTFORD 58
The Mustangs started out the first half strong, opening up on a 19-0 run to begin the game. Hartford would start to cut into the SMU lead as
Traci Carter made back to back three pointers to cut the Mustangs lead to 36-16. Carter would finish the first half with 14 points after going 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. SMU entered the halftime break leading, 45-23.
The second half would start out as a back and forth affair as both teams traded baskets in the opening minutes. The Hawks would continue to be on fire from three-point range as they Hawks knocked down three straight from beyond the arc with 4:40 remaining in the half. SMU would continue to maintain their lead, holding a lead as high as 30, as they would defeat the Hawks, 90-58 . Hartford would shoot 43.8% from three-point range in the second half.
INSIDE THE BOX AND NOTES
- Traci Carter finished with a season-high 16 points and three assists
- Hunter Marks would finish in double digits, scoring 10 points while leading the way in rebound with eight
- D.J. Mitchell finished with a team high four assists
- Feron Hunt and Kendric Davis lead the way in scoring for the Mustangs, finishing with 16 points each
