BOSTON — Freshman Moses Flowers from the Hartford men's basketball team was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the organization announced on Monday. A guard, Flowers averaged 17.0 points and 5.5 rebounds to lead the Hawks in both categories last week. 
 
A big game against St. Francis Brooklyn last Thursday was the highlight of an impressive week for Flowers. The Dorchester, Mass., native knocked down a personal-best five three-pointers and shot 10-of-15 from the field to finish with a career-high 28 points in the setback. Three days later, Flowers recorded two three-pointers, a pair of steals and five rebounds in a 79-62 defeat to Sacred Heart.
 
Flowers' point total against the Terriers marked the most scored by a Hartford freshman in more than 17 years, when Charles Ford ('06) netted 30 against Vermont on Jan. 20, 2002.
 
Making starts in 10 of Hartford's 11 games this season, Flowers is second on the team in scoring (12.1 ppg). Making a team-best 23 shots from behind the arc, he adds 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 assists per game.
 
Flowers is the second Hartford freshman to receive weekly recognition from the America East, as PJ Henry was named the Rookie of the Week on Nov. 11.
