Men's Lacrosse Drops Overtime Thriller at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – Despite clawing back from a four-goal deficit to take a late lead, the Hartford men's lacrosse fell in overtime at Quinnipiac on Tuesday, dropping a 17-16 decision. Senior midfielder Alex Borja netted a career-best six goals for the Hawks, who fall to 1-7 on the season.

Jake Tomsik, who delivered the game-tying strike with less than two minutes left in regulation, found the back of the net 72 seconds into the extra period to propel Quinnipiac (4-3) to the victory.

Behind the strength of a first-quarter hat trick from Borja, the Hawks stretched a 6-2 run into the opening minute of the second quarter to take a 7-5 lead. But that would be Hartford's last advantage for quite some time, as Quinnipiac answered with six straight goals to go up, 11-7, with 3:18 remaining in the half.

Trailing by four (12-8) with 11:21 left in the third, the Hawks would claw back to make it a one-goal game on two occasions before reclaiming the lead at 16-15 at the 2:20 mark of regulation behind consecutive scores from junior Ty Thompson, classmate Owen Trepeta and Borja. Just 29 seconds later, though, Tomsik would even the score, and after Foster Cuomo's potential game-winning shot in the final seconds was saved by Hartford goalie Cam Logan, Tomsik propelled the Bobcats to the win 72 seconds into overtime.
