WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The second seeded Hartford women's hoops team looks to punch its ticket to its second consecutive America East Championship, as the Hawks battle No. 3 Stony Brook in the semifinals of the playoffs on Sunday afternoon. Opening tip for the final-four matchup is 2 p.m.

STONY BROOK SCOUT
  • The Seawolves, who are 23-7 overall, secured a spot in the America East semifinals after overcoming a six-point halftime deficit to take down Vermont, 69-58
  • Stony Brook has been on a roll entering the conference semifinals, winning seven of its last eight games, including three straight ahead of Sunday's matchup
  • Shania Johnson, a First Team All-Conference selection, has been one of the top point guards in the country this season, ranking fourth in assists (224) and assists per game (7.5)

SERIES HISTORY
  • Wednesday will be the 42nd meeting between Hartford and Stony Brook, with the Hawks holding a strong advantage in the series at 30-11
  • The Hawks completed the sweep of the Seawolves, outscoring Stony Brook, 23-9, in the third quarter to break open a one-point game and score a 73-62 victory
  • The Hawks have won five of the last six in the series
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • No. 2 Hartford secured a spot in the America East semifinals, topping No. 7 UMBC, 65-48
  • Senior Lindsey Abed scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Hawks to its 14th appearance in the conference final four

  • In Hartford's final regular season game against against UAlbany, Abed drained her 223rd three-pointer to make her the program's all-time leader in made triples
  • She now sits at 229 with at least one game remaining in her career
  • Abed is also currently first in program history in three-point field goal percentage (.377)
 
TERRIFIC TWENTY
  • For the first time since 2012-13, Hartford has registered 20 wins in a single season
  • It is the eighth time in program history that a team has recorded 20 or more wins in a season, and the first time in head coach Kim McNeill's stint at the helm of the Hawks
 
HARTFORD CLEANS UP ALL-CONFERENCE AWARDS
  • Four members of the Hartford women's basketball team collected All-Conference honors from the America East, the organization announced on Tuesday
  • Highlighting the list of honorees was Abed, who was named to the America East All-Conference First Team, All-Defensive Team and the All-Academic Team
  • She becomes the first, First Team selection since Erica Beverly and Diana Delva each took home the accolade in 2009-10.
  • Sophomore Jade Young was named to the All-Conference Second Team and All-Defensive Team, while junior Sierra DaCosta was named to the All-Conference Third Team
  • Rounding out the list of the honorees was senior Alexia Douglas, who was named the conference's Sixth Player of the Year
 
BOOKS AND BALL
  • For the first time in her career, Abed was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Women's Basketball Academic All-District® 1 First Team, College Sports Information Directors of America announced last month
  • She became the second player in program history to receive the honor, and the first since Mary Silvia was selected during the 2010-11 season
  • A psychology major who was named the America East Women's Basketball Scholar Athlete in 2018, she was one of two players selected to the team from the America East
 
RECORD BOOK ASSAULT
  • Abed had a career night against UMBC last month, breaking a school and America East record with 10 three pointers, while tying the program's scoring record with 36 points
  • With this monumental performance, she earned America East Player of the Week honors for the second time this year and the third time in her career
  • Abed's 10 three-pointers broke her own school record of eight, set last season in a 91-52 win against Vermont (Feb. 17, 2018)
  • It also broke the America East record of nine set by Erica Carter of Binghamton (2009) and Jen Schumacher of UAlbany (2005)
  • Abed's career-high 36 points matched Janeka Lopp's total from the 2000-01 season
  • With the offensive explosion, Abed became just the eighth player in program history to score 30 or more points

  • With a victory, Hartford punches its ticket to the America East Championship on Friday, March 15
  • Depending on the result of the other America East semifinal match, the Hawks will either travel to Maine if they win or host if UAlbany wins
