VESTAL, N.Y. –Hartford baseball dropped two games on day one of its weekend America East series against Binghamton, 12-1 and 6-2, Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore
John Thrasher hit his first home run of the season in game one,as the Hawks fall to 13-25 overall and 7-7 in the America East. Alex Baratta finished the afternoon with four RBI, as the Bearcats improve to 17-17 on the season and 7-6 in conference play.
GAME ONE: BINGHAMTON 12 HARTFORD 1
Binghamton jumped all over game one in the bottom of the first scoring seven runs. The Bearcats had seven different players combined for their seven runs on seven hits.
The Hawks tallied their lone run of the game in the top of the seventh, as Thrasher sent a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence to make the score 10-1. It was Thrashers third home run of his career.
Binghamton scored two more runs in the seventh and eighth inning to take game one 12-1.
GAME TWO: BINGHAMTON 6 HARTFORD 2
After Binghamton took a six run lead through the first five innings, Hartford attempted to rally in the top of the sixth. With two outs, junior
Jackson Olson doubled to right center field and then moved over to third on a balk. Freshman
Devin Kellogg then stepped and knocked a single to left field, plating Olson and scoring Hartford's first run of the afternoon.
Senior
Chris Sullivan then singled down the left field line, putting runners on first and second. Junior
Zachary Ardito took advantage of the base runners, doubling to right field and scoring Kellogg from second to make the score 6-2.
The sixth inning rally was as close as Hartford would get as Binghamton closed out game two, 6-2.
