FAIRFIELD, Conn. –Hartford baseball fell to Fairfield, 7-4, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

Drew Holtgrieve hit his third home run of the season,as the Hawks fall to 14-27 overall. Giacomo Brancato went 1-3 with a grand slam and a run scored, as the Stags improve to 27-18 on the season.

After a scoreless first four innings, Hartford tallied the first run of the game in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Holtgrieve sent a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Hartford went ahead by two thanks to an individual effort by sophomore
John Thrasher. After earning a four pitch walk to start the inning, Thrasher immediately stole second and then advanced to third on an error by the catcher. He then completed his trip around the bases, taking advantage of a passed ball by the catcher to make the score 2-0.
Fairfield erupted for six runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a grand slam by Brancato with two outs left in the inning to give the Stags a 6-2 lead.
The Hawks cut Fairfield's lead in half in the next inning, loading the bases with two outs. Thrasher came to the plate and once again earned a walk, bringing sophomore
Drew DeMartino around to score. Junior
Jackson Olson matched Thrasher in the next at bat, earning a walk and scoring freshman
Will Nowak to make the score 7-4.
The Stags, however, scored one final run in the seventh inning to take the midweek contest, 7-4.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Sophomore James Judenis started the game, allowing three runs on five hits with four strikeouts
- Holtgrieve's home run in the fifth innings was the third of his career
- Thrasher now has a team-high 10 stolen bases and is tied for eighth in the America East
