ALBANY, N.Y. –Hartford baseball dropped a doubleheader to UAlbany, falling in game one, 2-1, and game two, 5-1, Friday afternoon in America East action.
Senior
Ashton Bardzell registered a double, a triple and a RBI ,as the Hawks fall to 20-31 overall and 11-12 in conference play. Sophomore Brad Malm finished with a team-high two RBI through the two games, as the Great Danes improve to 27-11 on the season and 12-9 in the America East.
GAME ONE: UALBANY 2 HARTFORD 1
Hartford jumped out to an early lead in the first inning as Bardzell tripled to right center field with two outs. Junior
Nik Pagan took advantage of the runner in scoring position, as he laced a single to right center field, plating Bardzell and giving the Hawks an 1-0 lead.
After the Great Danes scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth for the 2-1 lead, Hartford had its best opportunity to tie the game in the top of the eighth. Sophomore
Drew DeMartino opened up the inning with a walk and moved over to third with two outs. The Hawks however ended the inning with a ground out to second and UAlbany closed out the game one victory 2-1.
GAME TWO: UALBANY 5 HARTFORD 1
Hartford fell behind 4-0 through the first three innings, but began to mount a rally in the top of the sixth. After senior
Chris Sullivan led off the inning with a double to left field, Bardzell smashed a 2-2 pitch to left center field for a double of his own, scoring Sullivan and cutting the Great Danes' advantage to three (4-1).
UAlbany, however, added one run in the bottom of the sixth and held the Hawks scoreless in the seventh, taking game two 5-1.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Sophomore Nicholas Dombkowski (2-6) pitched six innings in game one, allowing one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts
- Bardzell's triple in game one was his seventh of the season, breaking the program's single-season record of six
