For the next six months, the selected young people (ages 18-25) will form groups and develop projects that address opportunities and challenges in Hartford.
A four-year member of the Hartford women's basketball team from 2013-17, Reaves logged time in 119 games for the Hawks. A local product of Bloomfield, Conn., she recorded 515 points and 460 rebounds in her career, while her 89 blocks still rank No. 4 all-time in program history.
In the classroom, the four-time America East Academic Honor Roll member graduated with a psychology, with a double minor in sociology and business administration. Since graduating, Reaves has been a member of the women's basketball staff at Southern New Hampshire University, serving as an assistant coach for each of the past two seasons.
A native of Forth Washington, Md., Baker spent three seasons on Hartford men's tennis team from 2014-17. He earned a business degree from Hartford before pursuing his MBA at American University. Baker currently works at the Fund for the Public Interest.
"The application did not ask what school the applicants attend or attended," said University of Hartford President Gregory Woodward earlier this month at a breakfast with five of the Corps members who attend or attended Hartford. "We are extremely pleased that a large number of our students and alumni have been selected to showcase their commitment to the city that is this University's namesake."
The Obama Foundation announced the names of the CLC members on its website saying "We're proud to welcome the Hartford cohort of the Community Leadership Corps to kick-off their six month leadership training. Members come from all over the city and will take part in in-person training, receive online coaching and get project funding to take on challenges in their communities."
