WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The Hartford men's basketball team revealed its complete 2019-20 schedule, head coach John Gallagher announced on Wednesday. The 30-game regular-season slate features 15 home dates in front of Hawks fans inside the Reich Family Pavilion.

For the fifth straight year, Hartford tips off the new season against local rival Central Connecticut. The battle between the two in-state foes is set for Nov. 5, in neighboring New Britain.

"Our challenging non-conference schedule includes in-state rivals CCSU and Sacred Heart, as well as new series against Cornell from the Ivy League and St. Francis Brooklyn from the NEC," said Gallagher. "These well-coached teams will provide great tests for the Hawks."
 
Also highlighting the Hawks' non-conference slate is the Wild West Showdown, a four-game tournament that consists of a pair of home dates against Gordon College (Nov. 16) and Emerson College (Nov. 21). The Showdown also includes a road trip to the Lone Star State, where Hartford will face SMU (Nov. 27) and Texas State (Nov. 30) for the first time in program history. 
 
Last season, Texas State won 24 games en route to making the program's second CIT postseason appearance in three years.
 
Other matchups for Hartford in the opening month of the slate include road games at Marist (Nov. 12) and Oakland (Nov. 18), and a home matchup against Merrimack, which is making its Division I debut this season, on Nov. 24.
 
The first four games in December will be played inside the Reich Family Pavilion, where Hartford posted 10 victories a year ago. The Hawks begin that stretch on Dec. 5 by hosting St. Francis Brooklyn, a 2019 CIT postseason opponent that is coming off a 17-win season.
 
Three weekend dates against Sacred Heart (Dec. 8), Wagner (Dec. 14) and Cornell (Dec. 22) conclude the Hawks' longest homestand of the 2019-20 campaign.
 
Non-conference play concludes after the holidays with a Midwest trip. Hartford kicks off the swing at Northeastern on Dec. 29, for the first-ever meeting between the two programs, before it takes on Bowling Green on New Year's Eve. Last season the Hawks knocked off the Falcons, who finished the year with 22 victories.
 
"Following a successful multi-year series against Boston College and a nationally televised game against Duke last season, we continue the tradition of competing against renowned high-major programs," said Gallagher. "This year, Northwestern from the Big 10 and SMU from the AAC help make up our non-league slate. The rigorous non-conference schedule serves as good preparation for the always-tough America East. Recent national successes in our league prove that the coaches and gifted student-athletes in our conference are very good at what they do."
 
January marks the start of the 16-game America East slate, which tips off with a home date against New Hampshire on Jan. 4. Hartford will also host Stony Brook (Jan. 15), UMBC (Jan. 22) and Binghamton (Jan. 29) during the opening month of league play. 
 
After beginning February with back-to-back road dates at Maine (Feb. 1) and UMBC (Feb. 5), the Hawks kick off a three-game homestand by hosting defending America East Champion Vermont (Feb. 8), UAlbany (Feb. 12) and UMass Lowell (Feb. 15).
 
The next three games lands Hartford on the road to face New Hampshire (Feb. 20), Binghamton (Feb. 22) and Stony Brook (Feb. 26), before the Hawks return home for their regular-season finale against Maine on March 3.

Under Gallagher, who enters his 10th season at the helm, Hartford is coming off its most successful two-year run since transitioning to Division I in 1984. The Hawks have combined for 37 wins during that stretch, including 18 in 2018-19.
