NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Senior forward
Kaila Lozada buried a penalty kick in the 21st minute to lead the Hartford women's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Merrimack. The Hawks were dominant throughout the entire match, holding a 16-5 advantage in shots and a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.
With the victory, the Hawks improve to 2-0, while the Warriors, who made their Division I debut, fall to 0-1.
HARTFORD 1, MERRIMACK 0
After coming out of the gates firing with a 6-1 advantage in shots, including two that forced Merrimack keeper Erin Fulton into action, the Hawks took a lead they would not relinquish on a Lozada penalty kick in the 21st minute. Hartford continued to dominate, but was unable to capitalize on four more shot attempts throughout the opening stanza.
The Warriors picked up the pace in the second half, taking four shot attempts to the Hawks' five, but Hartford held off any chance at the equalizer to earn the win in its first road match of the season.
