PROVIDENCE, R.I. —A penalty kick by Elayna Grillakis less than one minute into overtime propelled Providence past the Hartford women's soccer team, 1-0, at Chapey Field on Thursday evening. The Friars move to 2-1 on the season, while the Hawks fall to 2-1 with their first defeat of the season.

The Friars enjoyed an 8-2 advantage in shots in the first half, but junior goalkeeper
Maia Perez kept the match scoreless with four saves during that stretch. The Hawks' offense picked up in the early part of the second half with four looks before momentum shifted back in favor of Providence.
Despite taking seven of the final eight shots of regulation, including four inside the final 10 minutes, the Friars were unable to convert. Providence did capitalize 41 seconds into the extra session, as Grillakis scored the golden goal on a penalty kick to lift her team to the victory.
