NORMAN, Okla. — The Hartford men's golf team was recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) for its excellence in the classroom, the organization announced. The Hawks were one of 120 Division I programs in the nation to earn All-Academic Team honors for earning a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
 
"I am very proud of our team, and how they continue to commit to academic excellence," said head coach Pete Stankevich, who enters his 11th season at the helm of the Hawks. "They have done a great job at balancing the demands of both the classroom and the golf course, which is not a small task. Praise is also deserved to Denise Marchese, our academic advisor, who has played a huge role in our team's academic success."
 
Four student-athletes helped lead the Hawks to the academic recognition, as rising sophomore Jared Winiarz, rising juniors Eric Evans and Ryan Tomaso, and recent graduate Sam McNulty were each named to the Big Sky All-Academic Team earlier this summer. To be eligible for All-Academic Team honors, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average at the conclusion of the most recently completed term.
 
In addition, McNulty, who graduated last May with a degree in economics and finance, was recently named a Big Sky Scholar-Athlete. To qualify for a Scholar-Athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum GPA of 3.2, be a member of the graduating class and/or have completed their last year of intercollegiate athletic eligibility, have completed at least two years of intercollegiate competition and be a letterwinner in their respective sport.
