Women's Soccer Explodes for 6-0 Win vs. Delaware State

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. —The Hartford women's soccer team scored three times in the first half and three more times in the second to score a 6-0 win against visiting Delaware State on Sunday at Al-Marzook Field. The Hawks, who received a career-best two goals from senior Skylar Vitiello, improve to 3-4-1, while the Hornets drop to 0-7 on the season.

HARTFORD 6, DELAWARE STATE 0
The Hawks applied the pressure right out of the gates, which resulted in the home team taking an early lead on senior Anna Cronin's second score of the season. Just over 10 minutes later, Vitiello connected with classmate Sierra Stone to double the lead, before freshman Makaela Montgomery-Williams extended the advantage to 3-0 on her first career goal in the 37th minute.
 
Hartford continued to tack on the goals in the second half, as three scores within a stretch of 13 minutes expanded the lead to 6-0. Sophomore Izzy Lachcik sparked the rally with her first career goal in the 56th minute, before Vitiello completed her day by delivering her second marker from long distance just 43 seconds later. Freshman Doireann Fahey, who was credited with the assist on the game-winning tally, provided the last strike for the Hawks in the 69th minute, finding the back of the net for the first time in her career to provide the 6-0 final.

  • Montgomery-Williams, Lachcik and Fahey each scored their first career goals in the triumph, while Lozada dished out a career-high two assists
  • The Hawks outshot the Hornets, 33-2, and held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks
  • Hartford's defense held Delaware State to just two shots, none of which were on target
  • Junior goalkeeper Maia Perez earned her 24th career victory and 12th career shutout
  • Delaware State finished with nine saves, including five from Franchesska Ramirez, who logged 39 minutes after starting the second half for the Hornets

The Hawks have a week off before opening America East action at UAlbany on Sunday, Sept. 22. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
