Men's Soccer Defeats In-State Rival CCSU, 2-0

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — The Hawks took down their in-state rival CCSU, 2-0, on Tuesday night to extend their winning streak to five games. Two goals inside the opening 15 minutes of play from sophomore Kamer Nuhiu and senior Aitor Elena were enough to seal the victory for Hartford.  The Hawks improved to 5-2 on the year with the victory while the Blue Devils dropped to 0-4-1 with the loss.

CCSU 0, HARTFORD 2
The Hawks started the game off with a bang as it took them only four minutes to score the opening goal. Junior Nyrik Antoine played a simple ball across the goal that Nuhiu pounced on, slotting it past the CCSU goalkeeper to give the Hawks the early 1-0 advantage. Hartford would double their lead nine minutes later as a Connor Aksoz corner kick found an unmarked Elena in the box, who headed it home to double the lead. The Blue Devils would try and get back into the game, outshooting the Hawks 4-3, but the Hawks defense stood strong to take the 2-0 lead into the break.

The Hawks would dominate the early portion of the second half, registering multiple shots on goal. Freshman Stu Sain and junior Ryan Innes both had great chances to add onto the Hartford lead but would be denied by CCSU goalkeeper, Jason Dubrovich. Junior Jovante Etienne had the best chance for the Hawks in the second half as his close-range header was turned away by a great save from Dubrovich. The Blue Devils would have a number of chances from dangerous free kicks late in the game, but senior goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton, who finished with three saves, and the Hartford defense denied any chance of CCSU getting back into the game and hold on for the 2-0 win.
