ALBANY, N.Y. — The Hawks opened up their 2019 America East campaign with a 1-0 victory over UAlbany on Friday night. The win was Hartford's sixth in a row, matching the same streak the Hawks had in 2014. Hartford improves to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play while UAlbany drops to 3-4-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
HARTFORD 1, UALBANY 0
The Hawks started the game off strong, having the majority of the chances in the early portion of the first half. Hartford would strike in the 14th minute when
Rasmus Karlsson ran onto a long ball played out from the back and slotted his shot into the bottom left corner to give the Hawks the 1-0 lead. Senior goalkeeper
Jimmy Slayton made one save in the opening 45 minutes as the teams were tied, 7-7, in shots.
UAlbany domianted the run of play in the second half as it out shot Hartford, 13-2. The Great Danes' best chance came in the 71st minute when a well-struck shot to the bottom corner was expertly saved by Slayton. The pressure would continue late on into the game, but the Hawks defense would stand strong and deny any opportunity for the Great Danes. Slayton recorded three saves in the second half to preserve the 1-0 victory and pick up the Hawks' fifth consecutive shutout.
