WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Hartford Department of Athletics and head coach
John Gallagher has added a game to the men's basketball team's 2019-20 schedule. The Hawks will welcome Winthrop to Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion for their home opener on Thursday, Nov. 7.

"Winthrop has appeared in 10 NCAA Tournaments since 1999," said Gallagher. "We respect their program and the Big South a great deal, and we look forward to welcoming them to West Hartford for our home debut."
Winthrop is coming off a 2018-19 season that saw the squad go 18-12. Putting up the eighth-most points per game in the nation (83.3), the Eagles finished that season as the top three-point shooting team in the country, leading the nation with 12.4 makes per game.
The addition of Winthrop completes a 31-game regular-season slate for Hartford that now includes 16 home dates. The Hawks tip off the 2019-20 regular season just miles away from West Hartford, as they take on neighboring Central Connecticut on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Under Gallagher, who enters his 10th season at the helm, Hartford is coming off its most successful two-year run since transitioning to Division I in 1984. The Hawks have combined for 37 wins during that stretch, including 18 in 2018-19.
