Two Second-Half Goals Propel Men's Soccer Past Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Two second-half goals from sophomore Sergi Martinez and freshman Addrian Knights-Browne propelled the Hartford men's soccer team to its first win of the 2019 season, as the Hawks knocked off Brown 2-1 on Friday night.

Hartford improves to 1-2 on the young season while Brown falls to 0-1.

BROWN 1, HARTFORD 2
The first half started out slow, as it took until the 17th minute for a shot to be registered when freshman Addrian Knights-Browne saw his low driven shot saved by James Swomley. Michael Chung would then give the hosts the lead in the 25th minute as his shot was deflected past the reach of senior goalkeeper Jimmy Slayton.  Junior Rasmus Karlsson came close to equalizing for the Hawks shortly afterwards, but his close-range effort was denied by a great save from Swomley. Hartford finished the first half with a 6-4 advantage in shots.

The Hawks found the equalizer early in the second half as Sergi Martinez slotted home a penalty kick after Karlsson was brought down in the box in the 54th minute. Hartford continued to dominate the second half and was rewarded for its efforts late in the game. Receiving a pass from senior Aitor Elena inside the box, Knights-Browne slotted home his first career goal to give the Hawks the lead in the 88th minute. The Bears would fire a couple of shots late, but Slayton stood strong and denied any hopes for a late equalizer.
