America East League Slate Announced for Men's Basketball

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The 2020-21 America East schedule for Hartford's men's basketball team has been announced. The Hawks will play 18 league games in a slate that features back-to-back dates against the same opponent at the same location.

Due to COVID-19, the schedule is subject to change, and all games will be played in accordance with the latest guidelines from the CDC, the State of Connecticut, the University of Hartford and the America East Conference.

Hartford — which saw its America East Playoff run come to an abrupt end prior to the Championship Game due to the COVID-19 pandemic — will play host to five league opponents, for a total of 10 games inside Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion.

Highlighting the 10-game home slate is a pair of back-to-back dates with Vermont, on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24. The Hawks and Catamounts were set to square off in the America East Championship game for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament this past March before the title game was canceled due to COVID-19.

The Hawks tip off their America East slate at home on Dec. 19 with back-to-back dates against Maine. After concluding the 2020 calendar year with a road trip to New Hampshire (Dec. 27-28), the Hawks bring in the New Year in West Hartford with back-to-back home dates against Binghamton (Jan. 2-3).

The next four games land the men's team on the road, as it heads to UMass Lowell (Jan. 9-10) and UMBC (Jan. 16-17). The conclusion of the longest road trip of the league slate brings upon the longest homestand of the season — a four-game stretch that kicks off with the Vermont series and ends with the first-ever matchup with NJIT, the league's newest member, on Jan. 30 and Jan. 31.

After a bye week, Hartford hits the road for Long Island for its final regular-season road series at Stony Brook (Feb. 18-19), before returning home to play host to UAlbany for the final two games of the regular season on Feb. 27 and Feb. 28. Information regarding the 2021 America East Playffs will be announced at a later date.

Each Hartford home basketball game — and all contests against America East opponents — will be aired on ESPN3 or ESPN+.

The Hawks return eight players from last year's roster, including four starters and America East All-Conference selections Traci Carter (Third Team, All-Defensive Team) and Moses Flowers (All-Rookie Team). Hartford has also added six newcomers to the mix, highlighted by Austin Williams, a transfer from Marist who had to sit out the 2019-20 season due to NCAA transfer regulations.

Hartford finished the 2019-20 season with an 18-15 overall record under head coach John Gallagher, who enters his 11th season at the helm in 2020-21. Hartford has posted three consecutive winning seasons under Gallagher, a program first during the Hawks' Division I era.
