Flowers' 20 Points Leads Men's Hoops Past Fairfield, 66-61

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Hartford men's basketball was able to hold off a late Fairfield comeback, as the Hawks held on for a 66-61 win over the Stags inside Alumni Hall on Wednesday night. Sophomore guard Moses Flowers scored a game-high 20 points, while junior forward Hunter Marks and senior guard Austin Williams combined for 25 points to lead Hartford (1-2) to its first victory of the season.

Fairfield (0-2), had four players reach double-figure scoring, led by Caleb Green's 15 points. 
 
HARTFORD 66, FAIRFIELD 61
After Fairfield jumped out to a 7-2 lead within the opening four minutes of the contest, Hartford battled back to knot the score at 13-13 with 7:46 remaining. Trailing 16-13, the Hawks went on a 13-4 run, capped by a Jakub Dombek three-pointer, to take a 26-20 lead with 2:29 before the break. However, the Stags closed the half with an 8-0 run to take a 28-26 lead into the half.
 
With the score tied at 32-32, the Hawks went on a 14-2 run to take a 12-point lead, its largest of the game, with 12:34 remaining in regulation. The Stags responded, though, firing off a 19-5 run of their own to knot the contest at 53-53 with 5:38 left in the second half. Marks answered the run with a three-pointer to spark a Hawks' 9-3 run to push Hartford's lead to 62-56 with 2:03 to go. The Hawks were able to limit the Stags to five points the rest of the way, holding on for a 66-61 win.
