Williams, Webley Sweep America East Awards

BOSTON — The Hartford men's basketball team swept the America East weekly awards, the organization announced Monday. Senior guard Austin Williams was named the America East Player of the Week, while freshman forward Thomas Webley garnered Rookie of the Week honors.

The duo helped lead Hartford (2-2) to a 2-1 record last week. After opening the week with an 87-53 defeat to #12 Villanova inside Mohegan Sun Arena's Bubbleville on Tuesday, the Hawks rebounded with back-to-back wins against Fairfield (66-61) on Wednesday and CCSU (80-65) on Friday.

Williams, who made his Hartford debut last month against UConn after a redshirt season in 2019-20, scored in double figures in all three games last week. He led the Hawks on the boards with 6.7 rebounds per game and averaged 12.7 points per game, shooting a sizzling 73 percent (17-of-23) from the field. Williams' week was highlighted by a 15-point, 10-rebound effort against the Blue Devils, which marked Hartford's first double-double of the season.

Webley has made an immediate impact as a member of the Hawks' frontcourt. Last week he averaged 7.7 points and 4.3 rebounds, including a career-high 10-point effort in Friday's win against CCSU. A native of Christchurch, New Zealand, Webley also had a solid game against #12 Villanova with nine points and six rebounds.

Hartford wraps up a busy stretch that features four games within a one-week span on Monday, when it plays host to in-state foe Fairfield in their final scheduled non-conference game. The Hawks look to complete the sweep of the Stags at 4 p.m. on ESPN3.
