Hartford and Canisius exchanged four goals apiece in the opening half, with junior Christian Paley's score with 1:57 remaining until halftime tying up the score at 4-4. With four different players found the back of the net for the Hawks, who never led in the stanza.

That all changed 42 seconds after halftime, when Thompson used a feed from Andrew Boniface to give Hartford its first advantage. O'Connell would then end an 11-game scoring drought for both sides with his second goal of the contest at the 3:14 mark of the third, before Paley struck just seven seconds later to put the Hawks up, 7-4.

O'Connell stretched the lead to 8-4 with consecutive goals with 1:36 left in the third and 13:50 remaining in the fourth, before senior Owen Trepeta capped off the scoring with Hartford's seventh-straight goal with 11:42 to go.
