Baseball Falls Short Against UConn in Home Opener

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Tyler Coppo led the Hawks with three hits, as Hartford baseball fell to UConn, 5-2, in the Hawks' home-opener Tuesday afternoon at Fiondella Field.

With the loss the Hawks fell to 6-5 on the season with the loss, while the Huskies improved to 8-5 with the win.

With the game scoreless entering the bottom of the second, the Hawks were able to score two runs off an error in the field from the Huskies. UConn responded by scoring a run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings to knot the contest at 2-2. 

The Huskies took the lead in the sixth after Paul Gozzo hit a three-run homer to give UConn a 5-2 lead. The deficit proved to be too much, as the Hawks ultimately fell to the Huskies, 5-2.

  • Coppo led the offense, recording three hits for the Hawks in the loss
  • Kyle Hawes added a hit in the loss
  • Zane Robbins got the start and took the no-decision after giving up one earned run while striking out four in 4.1 innings of work
  • Jack Rose tossed three innings of shutout ball with three strikeouts in the loss
