Coppo Drives in Three in Baseball's 13-3 Win at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Tyler Coppo led the Hawks with four hits and three RBI, as Hartford baseball defeated The Citadel on the road, 13-3, on Sunday afternoon at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Nik Pagan, Zachary Ardito and Devin Kellogg added two RBI apiece, as the Hawks improved to 6-4 on the season with the win, while The Citadel fell to 13-3 with the loss.

With the game scoreless entering the fourth, Coppo served an RBI single to left to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. After a Bulldogs error gave Hartford a 3-0 in the fifth, Coppo delivered an RBI single to center to put the Hawks up 4-0. The Hawks capped the five-run inning with an RBI single from Pagan, before The Citadel responded with three runs of its own to cut the Hartford lead to 6-3.

The Hawks plated four runs in the sixth, capped by a two-run single from Kellogg to push the lead to 10-3. Hartford added one more in the seventh after Drew DeMartino drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run. Ardito's two run single in the eighth gave the Hawks a 10-run lead and they eventually held on for the 13-3 win.

  • Coppo led the offense, going 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored in the win 
  • Pagan, Ardito and Kellogg added two RBI apiece
  • John Thrasher went 2-for-5 with a double, a walk, two stolen bases and three runs scored
  • Jackson Olson went 1-for-3 with three walks, three runs scored and a stolen base
  • Ken Turner got the start and took the no-decision after giving up three earned runs and striking out four in 4.2 innings of work
  • James Judenis earned the win after tossing 1.2 innings of shutout ball and striking out three in relief
  • Tim Blaisdell and Jason Johndrow combined to toss 3.0 innings of shutout ball
